The Williston Newsletter – March 2019
Welcome to The Williston
February was an exciting month, as we opened our doors to welcome our first Residents now living at The Williston. The community is coming to life. Once the amenities wing opens up this spring, the hallways will be filled with delightful smells of fresh baked goods and special brewed coffees from our Café, as well as the sounds of light chitter-chatter from neighbors, friends and family enjoying each other’s company in all of our amenity spaces.
We invite you and your family to come out and explore everything The Williston has to offer.
1. We Offer Choices
You’re in control at The Williston.
It’s about having the freedom to choose the lifestyle you want. Our community is comprised of adult apartment and all-inclusive independent living rental suites.
You’ll love exploring all our modern and spacious floorplans. Regardless of which lifestyle and floorplan you choose, you’ll love all the dining options, social opportunities and trying new hobbies. The Williston is really about having a taste for life!
2. Find Your Zen
Finding your zen means enjoying life’s moments with family and friends, and not having to worry about putting together a large holiday meal or cleaning your home. We have a team to worry about all those details.
With a hot coffee in hand, watch the sunrise on your private covered balcony or on our roof top terrace.
Take in a fitness class you’ve always wanted to but never had enough time. This is about you!
3. It’s In Harbour Landing
Life really is just outside your doorstep when you live in Harbour Landing.
In the winter, you can explore the trails with your cross country skis and in the warmer months, you can set up a blanket and enjoy a picnic lunch with the family. The shops at the Grasslands Centre is just a short drive away.
You won’t have to travel far to find some amazing fashion finds, a new toy for the grand kids or a vase for that table in the front hall. Being located only minutes from the airport, means you won’t ever miss that flight to the sunny south! The Williston is never far from anything.
4. A Sense of Community
Remember those days when people had large front porches? They would be out on summer nights with an iced tea. Neighbors would wave as they walked by and asked how the kids are doing and speculate whether or not rain would be coming soon. The Williston is all about community and keeping our residents connected.
5. Our Amenities
Canadian winters are long. The 6 ft snow drifts, howling winds are all great excuses to hibernate like bears. Winters at The Williston won’t slow you down. Not one bit. Just outside your suite, without stepping foot outside, you’ll have plenty to do!
Grab an afternoon matinee in our private theatre, cuddle in a cozy chair by the fire with a good book, sip on coffee while nibbling on pastries from the W Café in our reception lounge. Your days will be filled with fun!
I’m Deb Brown the Executive Director for the luxurious adult living community ‘The Williston’. I will be managing the day to day operations, assisting residents and building a healthy and safe community for staff and residents to enjoy.
My expertise is community development and I specialize in healthy and safe adult living. I bring work experience supported by academic accomplishments in Business Management, Public Speaking and residential management to The Williston community and proudly share these learnings with those I work with.
I hail from Brandon Manitoba where I had the privilege of working for the most knowledgeable members of our community by assisting them in finding suitable housing at Sokol, Manitoba Housing Development and Rotary Villas.
My personal interest in preparing for my retirement is what inspired me to pursue a career in Adult living accommodations. During my research, it became clear to me that to select suitable housing I needed to find someone to assist me that was like-minded and understood my needs. I truly enjoy my work. Each day I look forward to spending time supporting others in finding just the right home. It is mandatory that my staff feel the same way. We are a team working together to make a difference in the lives of the people that choose to make The Williston their home.
As the proud mother of three adult children and 7 beautiful grandchildren, I am looking forward to spending quality time with them. I grew up in the rural community of Bladworth and have spent most of my working career in Saskatchewan in communities in and around Regina.
Curling is the name of my game! I’m an avid curler. I started curling at 15 and enjoy the sport to this day.
I am motivated by my public speaking experience and always welcome an invitation to speak to organizations about community development, adult living opportunities, rural issues and my favourite is Women in Leadership roles.
All kinds of music brighten my day but somehow, I always end with a country song on a stressful day. There is something relaxing possibly comforting to country music.
My thirst for new experiences has taken me on many adventures across this amazing country we call North America and I’ve dabbled a little internationally.
That is me in a snapshot, literally, my life is a Polaroid moment in time.
My slogan is ‘Life is a journey, embrace it’ and that is how I view every day!
Is your community pet-friendly?
Just because you are downsizing, it doesn’t mean you need to give up your pets. At The Williston, we love animals! We have pet-friendly suites available on the first and second floor in both our adult apartment and all-inclusive living rental options.

Our all-inclusive independent living suites at The Williston is our favorite option. It’s the best of both worlds. Vagabonding by Rolf Potts
It’s hard to say no to a luxury branded hotel. But after reading Vagabonding, you might plan your next trip differently. Rolf, a globetrotting journalist, happily shares his insights on financing big global trips, answers how to determine your next travel destination (because it’s not as simple as throwing a dart) and how to handle travel adversity. So grab a cup tea and a comfy chair and let’s see where this book will take you next!
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert M. Pirsig
Unlike our first recommendation, this fictional read is a throwback to the 70’s. When times were simpler. Electronics didn’t run the dinner conversation, rather people shared, laughed and enjoyed each other’s company. Considered a modern classic, contrary to the title, this book isn’t about maintenance at all but rather about a tale of the ups and downs of a road trip from Minnesota to Northern California. Let’s dust off those road maps, pack up the car (or motorcoach) and get ready to find your next big adventure.
